The July limited edition is Earl Grey, or bergamot and black tea gin.
Bergamot is a citrus fruit used to flavor Earl Grey. This aromatic fruit was also used in this year’s January Limited Edition.
We also used bergamot from Yamada Olive Garden in Shodoshima.
In January, we used bergamot harvested relatively early, but this time we used yellow ripe bergamot and distilled its rich, sweet aroma into a gin.
The black tea to be paired with the bergamot was Murakami black tea grown in Murakami City, located in the northernmost part of Niigata Prefecture.
Yes, this time we have created a gin that is truly inspired by Earl Grey tea.
The Murakami black tea used this time is a Japanese black tea by Fujibien, which is also sold under the name “Yukiguni Kocha.
Thanks to techniques honed in the harsh environment of long winters and short daylight hours, the tea has a mild flavor with little astringency. This gentle aroma of black tea is combined with ripe, fruity bergamot to create a sweet, soft, and fragrant gin.
