2022 Limited Ed. 12 "Fir Tree"

Hello, I am Sugikawa, a YASO distiller.
It is getting colder and colder here in Joetsu as well, with a hint of winter in the air.

The key botanical for the last such limited edition this year is "fir tree".
Yes, that tree of the Christmas tree.

The fir has long been considered a sacred tree in Europe because of its green leaves that grow straight up to the sky even in winter.
The limited edition fir we sold last December was so well received that we decided to use it again this year as a key botanical.

The scent of fir...may be surprisingly hard to imagine.
A fresh dark green aroma...I find it hard to describe.
It has a calming aroma of coniferous trees, like when you take a deep breath in a snowy winter forest, and the fresh scent leaks out from your breath...well, anyway, it is a very delicious gin.
This is Sugigawa's best-selling limited edition gin that you should definitely try.

Such fragrant firs are from Yamanashi Prefecture.
Fuji, the firs from the foot of Mt. Fuji have a fresh aroma just by opening the box, and from this moment on, you can look forward to the gin being made.
In order to bring out both the fresh aroma of fir and the serene green aroma, the aroma was extracted and blended in two different ways, this time in a reduced-pressure distiller and in an atmospheric distiller.

The base gin to be paired with such firs is again this year with an increased amount of juniper berries.
I think the juniper berry supports the balance of the zin at the deepest level, like a bass part in an orchestra,
The fir aroma is like a cello or a horn, a mid-range note that connects the lower notes of juniper berry with the higher notes of spice and citrus.
This time, the spotlight is on the middle register, and the treble part is only modestly added to add a slight flourish to the sound.
In addition, the bass part echoes the bass quietly and supports the thickness of the whole...it becomes a well-balanced zine in such a way.

When I was researching fir trees for distillation, I read a children's story called "The Fir Tree" by Hans Christian Andersen.
It is a story about a fir tree that wants to grow up quickly and get out into the outside world, but it is a story that makes even adults think.
In general, the talk made me realize once again that it is a blessing to be able to enjoy the present moment.

In the fairy tale of such a "fir tree," a young fir tree, curious about the outside world, sees a tree being cut down,
There is a scene where he wonders where he is going and asks the stork.
The stork said, "On my way from Egypt, I came across many new ships. I am sure that these fir trees are the fir trees you are talking about. Because it smelled like a fir tree. I am sure this fir tree is the one you are talking about," he replied,
When the fir tree hears this story, it makes him think of the sea,
I was thinking, "Wow, the trunk of a fir tree smells that good, I wonder what kind of aroma it has. I wonder what kind of aroma it has...I want to smell it.
I'd love to distill the trunk someday...

This time, the fir tree has a slightly sweet finish and is very tasty with a simple soda, making it a perfect match with a meal.
Why not pair a refreshing fir gin soda with your Christmas or New Year's meal?

The December limited edition is "Fir Tree". It will go on sale on Thursday, December 15.
Please look forward to it.
