THE HERBALIST YASO GIN EXTRA HERB Renewal Announcement

THE HERBALIST YASO GIN EXTRA HERB, which has been enjoyed by many since its launch in 2023, has undergone a partial review of its manufacturing process and renewal in order to further refine its aroma and taste.
The botanicals and base spirits used remain unchanged, as does the bottle design.

Background of Renewal

EXTRA HERB is the first in THE HERBALIST YASO's regular series, which was created under the theme of “imaginary fruits in the forest.
Based on an in-house spirit derived from plant fermentation extracts consisting of 80 raw materials, it is distilled mainly from juniper berries and a variety of spices, including coriander. Single botanicals such as bergamot and fir are distilled and blended to create this product. When combined with the number of plants and other botanicals in the base spirit, the total number of botanicals used is 100. The taste is a balance of green flavors typical of coniferous trees such as juniper berries and firs, while fruity flavors such as bergamot remain, which was the very theme of the imaginary fruits that grow in the forest.
Two years have passed since its launch. In order to further pursue its fragrance, we re-examined it with "space" in mind.

We were conscious of the "scent of space.

In the past, EXTRA HERB reproduced the aroma felt when the material was brought close to the nose. In this renewal, we were conscious of expressing the “expansive aroma” felt when you are in the same space as the material. The result,

  • The scent of cedar and fir leaves spreading through the forest
  • Change from the beginning of the drink to the aftertaste in the mouth

The taste is now more palatable and enjoyable.

To use an abstract analogy, the conventional product was "the moment when you wade through the overgrown trees and discover fruit on the trees. The renewed product is "the moment when the fruit ripens, sunlight shines through the trees, a path opens up, and you are in a space where the trees and the air come together.
The result is a feeling of such an expansive scene.

Major changes in manufacturing process

The botanicals and spirits themselves remain unchanged, but have been reviewed with a focus on the following two points.

1, Reexamination of "cut position" at distillation

For each of the five botanicals, including fir and bergamot, which are distilled singly, the cutting position was re-examined by re-checking the taste and aroma of each one.
We made adjustments to extract the desired aroma and flavor, which are closer to the original ingredients.

2,Reconstructing the ratio of blending

The overall ratio of the compound was redesigned from scratch in accordance with a review of the cut position.
After repeated prototyping, we have succeeded in creating a more three-dimensional and deeper flavor, while maintaining the traditional EXTRA HERB taste.

Drinking Recommendations

We recommend a gin and tonic. However, the best way to drink it to feel the difference from the conventional EXTRA HERB is straight. The new EXTRA HERB has a slightly pungent but mellow taste, with a variety of tasty flavors that gradually spread in the mouth.
We would be happy if you could feel the sensation when we conduct a straight tasting at a store or other location.

Switchover time

The switchover is scheduled to begin in late December 2025.
